Second Step Players Annual O'Neill Shows
Our History
Artreach’s signature program, the sketch comedy theater troupe The Second Step Players, was created in 1985 by co-founders Ronna Keil and SJ Williams. Since that time, Artreach as an agency has grown to include a music program, an artistic development program with classes in writing, visual arts, acting, digital art etc.; and a wellness program with groups to support our members. Our largest funder is the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, who support our belief that CREATIVITY HEALS! Artreach's innovative approaches to wellness use the CREATIVE ARTS to help adults who have experienced psychiatric disorders achieve sustainable recovery.
Twenty-One Years of Second Step Players at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre
Since 1985, the Second Step Players have created and performed original sketch comedy about mental health issues. The Players touring performances reach audiences from all walks of life; providers of mental health services, students in nursing and psychology programs, family members, and other people who have experienced psychiatric issues. The Gallery below features program books from the 21 years of annual show at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, CT. Each year, new material was written for the O'Neill show, based on current issues in the mental health system that were of interest to our program members and staff. This material debuted at the O'Neill and was developed into the following year's touring productions, traveling to mental health agencies, nursing programs, psychology programs, and the community.
