The Artreach community is supportive and fun. The air is effervescent with laughter. Working together as equals, staff and program members create a resonant field which enables individuals to remember who they are in their healthiest form.
A Positive Environment
These qualities help our program members and staff thrive and grow.

An extension of Artreach's Second Step Players Comedy Troupe, which has been performing mental health stigma-busting sketch comedy since 1985, "Comic Alchemy" features a team of funny, thoughtful, stand up comics who have been diagnosed with mental illnesses.
Since 2010, Artreach has been developing a team of stand-up comics under the direction of David Granirer, Stand Up For Mental Health Founder. Our teaching touring shows now feature these stand up comics, along with traditional Second Step Players skits. It's comedy to entertain while reducing the negative stereotyping that leads to discrimination of people with psychiatric disorders.
Artreach is fortunate to have Dick Pape as our Music Program Director. A professional musician for 30+ years, he leads our annual Music Showcase process, a 10 - 12 week endeavor with two house bands and 16 - 20 members, who choose songs to work on with the band, ending in a large Music Showcase performance.
In addition, Dick leads a weekly intermediate/advanced Jazz Group. Players come to develop skills playing out of the "Real Book."
Physical, emotional and spiritual wellness are important supports for improving and maintaining health. Three times each week, Artreach's Walking Group goes to Mohegan Park to exercise in nature, enjoying turtles, squirrels and chipmunks while getting great aerobic exercise!
When funding allows, Artreach offers Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction trainings taught by senior staff at the Center for Mindfulness in MA. These trainings have been very important for the wellness and sustained recovery of many of our members.
